jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Welcome everybody back to Talking Grit. Uh, it's just Jacob and I today, so just Jacob and Jason. We don't have another person. Um, so Jacob is free reign to rain his insults upon me, and I will try my best to defend myself.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I don't have to be nice to you anymore. Just be myself.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

you know, it's like when you're a kid and your parents are like, you know, Grandma and Grandpa are here, you better act, you better behave. That's kind of what I was when Justin was here. I was like, Jacob, you better not, you know, say anything stupid in front of Justin. We want him.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

embarrass me.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, exactly. We want him to come back sometime. Um, so, no, it's uh, it'll be good for just you and I. I'm kinda, I'm missing the banter that we would have back and forth, so glad to have it just you and I. So last week, Jacob and I had the opportunity to go to training camp on Thursday, so that was Um, the day before they did the scrimmages, but we got to see some pretty cool stuff there. Um, I know if you listen to Matt, Soltysiak on one of our last shows, he said, get there at eight o'clock, Jacob and I didn't listen to him. We got there at seven o'clock in the morning. Uh, we know doors don't open till seven 30, but we like to be there early and check things out. And then we got to see everything. It was, it was pretty cool. So, uh, that was that your first training camp. Jacob.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

That was the first one I went

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Okay. Yeah,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

say for anyone that's ever been on the fence, you're not sure, you know, if you're going to like it, if you're going to care for it, you definitely need to get there. Definitely a cool experience for everybody.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

definitely fun. I mean, you got kids, I could see some of them maybe not being excited, but there's a ton of like things for the kids that, you know, look at, there's things that take pictures with, um, they can, you can walk freely around and there's, you know, see practice from different angles and, um, you know, you can hopefully get some autographs, um, I ended up with, uh, Mr. Goff and Mr. Sewell's autograph that day, so that was super cool. Um, I, and my boys, I mean, they weren't really for me, but they're for my boys, so, um, they're sitting downstairs at my bar, and the boys still are excited that we got that, so I, it was awesome.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

are two really good autographs to get.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, I was not expecting that at all, and it just kind of fell in my lap, so that was pretty cool. So, um, along with that, we got, uh, Uh, meet Jeremy Reisman in person and he was gracious enough to talk to us for like 15 minutes. Um, talked a little bit about, you know, a lot about lions and, you know, how things are going. And it was fun. It was fun catching up with him. So that, that was really cool.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yes. He's a very, very cool person. Very easy to talk to.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. And he loves to talk lions. So that fits right in with us because that's what we obviously like to do. Another thing, um, that I just want to mention is. When you get there, Matt had said, you know, sit towards the back. If you're there in the morning, you want to sit way in the back, like maybe the back three, five to three rows, because everything else was in the sun about halfway or by the end of practice, about half of the stand is covered. Um, cause they're doing the early morning practice. So just if, if it's important for you to stay out of the sunset towards the back of the stands. Uh, Yeah, it

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

was funny when they let people in when they first started there's literally people running to the sides of the fences They're not even running for the good seats. They want on the outside of the fences. They're thinking autographs. They're thinking, you know after practice I thought it was kind of cool It was kind of set up similar to how the draft was where you know, there's all kinds of different You know You have those helmets you can take the pictures with and like the figures where you know, you look like you're in uniform Tons of cool little things to do all around the outside.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

They also had the old podium. So like they have the new huge Meyer podium that they use, but they had the old original podium. You could go up and take a picture with. So I thought that was funny. And at one point I had to pick Jacob's draw off the ground cause the cheerleaders walked by and he, you know, Couldn't contain himself. He's a young man, you know, so he, uh, I had to,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

how that went down.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

no, it's pretty close, but I,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

a picture with me.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

oh.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

to politely decline.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, okay, you know, you know, you know, I'll see what your wife thinks about that. That was,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I was gonna say, your wife's not gonna appreciate you bringing this up on the podcast.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I don't know, I'd I mean, I noticed the cheerleaders, but we did not take a picture of them. Of course I did. I would be lying if I didn't notice the cheerleaders. Jacob took extensive notes on the practice. Jason did not take a,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

that?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

yeah, Jason did not take extensive notes. I was really paying attention, but Jacob was. Acting like we were going to be on an exam. So we're going to defer to him to have all the facts because he's right. He did a good job with it. I did not. I was just actually watching practice. So

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I'm watching both fields. I'm watching the drills. I'm watching the team things. I'm watching everything. I'm making detailed notes. to pay attention. the whole time. He's walking around, he ate a biscuit, he's looking around seeing what he can do. The only thing I heard him say the whole time is, Hey, do you think that, um, Manu is bigger than Skipper?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

we did talk about that cause they were standing next to each other. That isn't the only thing I said. And don't act like I was right next to you the whole time.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

times,

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Not several times, but they did stand next to each other once.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

by the big strong men.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. Well, I mean, you know, Justin Rogers video when Dan Skipper is in the ice bath. Woo. It's right up my alley.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Okay, moving on.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right, so Jacob, what do you want to hit on first that we saw at practice? Let's actually talk some football here.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Basically, we're just gonna lay out, you know, when we first got to practice, we got there really early before anybody else really came out. You know, Amon Ra is already out on the jugs machine. That stood out to me, you know, the special teams kind of come out first. And then the next people that I saw were the rookie, not all rookie, but the younger defensive backs. So Terry on Arnold and it's rake straw and Brian branch. Uh, I saw them come out and start doing walkthroughs with the defensive back coach, like right away. And that was telling for me, just because it seems like they're really all it seriously and buying in and trying to work on everything that they can. know, especially cause branch is missing time and everything. He's trying to make up for lost time and get back out there. You know, like we already said, that was my first time actually going out to seeing a practice. So I thought that was cool, you know, to slowly see everybody come out, getting their position groups and warm up, uh, you know, before the real practice started, jumped out at you right away?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, I did. Well, I mean, seeing Aminor on the drugs machine, just, you know, just catching it, it's impressive how fast those balls are coming out of the drugs, drugs machine, and, you know, he's just catching them, you know, throwing them. And as soon as he's releasing that ball, the next one's there. He's got to catch that. It's pretty, pretty impressive. Uh, I liked, when I went to camp last year, I'd like to see who was the first one out on the field. And last year, the first two people that I saw on the field were actually J Mo and Cam Sutton. Cam Sutton was doing some backpedaling drills. J Mo was doing some hand eye coordination drills where they threw some beanbags at him. So it, You know, it always was interesting to me to see who's taking extra time on the field and, um, what they're doing to perform. So, it's fun. I, I like to get there early. I'm an early guy. I just like to be the first one in there. If I want to walk around, I'll have time for that too. So, I do recommend getting there early just for checking out that stuff. Plus, you could take pictures that early. Whereas once the horn blows and, you know, practice starts, you're not supposed to be taking any pictures. So if you want to have opportunities to take pictures while they're working out, um, then you need to get there early for that.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

For sure. Um, my thing is obviously we had notes. I was taking notes the whole time, but what I really wanted What I was looking for anyways, who's gonna stand out? Who's the guy that's gonna make such a big effort or you know, just plays consistently that I'm like, man, who's that guy? What number is that? I got to see who that was and You know right away just as soon as the drill as soon as everything's going on. I saw somebody standing out It was a defensive lineman. I had to look and that was Levi and you know We heard so many things ahead of time about how he's looked in practice How he looked in like the OTAs and everything to see that, you know, for ourselves was very cool because he definitely was, he was making an impact and also he just wasn't giving up on the place. And that was something that was really cool to see and really stood out to me. Was there anyone like that for you that you were looking for that really stood out?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Uh, you know, I was, I wanted to watch Levi 2 because just how dominant he's Ben being portrayed. Another guy that I, that stood out to me was Marcus Davenport. He just has a bull rush and he just pushed, uh, I'm assuming it was Decker on that side. I'm not sure. I couldn't see the number who he was blocking, but he just pushes them right back into where the quarterback would be. They, you know, they're not going to touch the quarterback during these drills, but I was really impressed by Davenport. Um, just thinking ahead to the season, if he's able to push and compress that side of the line, that just pushes them all the closer to Aiden Hutchinson on the other side. So I, I was super impressed with Davenport from, from what we saw from him.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, that's true. And that's probably exactly, you know, what the lions, what Brad Holmes and everybody's looking for is we need. We need them to not run away from Hutch. We need them to be pushing that side of the line. So if Davenport is just consistently bull rushing and you know, really, that's wearing down the offensive line over the course of the game too. And yeah, definitely just pushing them Hutch's way and making it easier on him and Aleem.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I mean, it's going to help with the run game too, cause you're just given, you know, you're pushing them back into the back or, you know, you're not letting them go out that side. I'm intrigued by. How, uh, he played and how that's going to, if you could say healthy. I mean, that's the big F with that important. Can he stay healthy? You know, for right now, it looks, it looks pretty good. Looks promising.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Definitely. a lot of the one on one drills that we saw right in front of us anyway, where there was a lot of the wide receiver and defensive back, saw the individual drills with the defensive backs, you know, they're warming up and everything like that. Um, I did notice when they were doing the safety drills, you know, Brian Branch and Kirby Joseph were the two that were kind of the leaders out there for the drills. They were the first ones taking turns and they followed that up with Iffy and Brian and Joseph, kind of like the second team, first team, second team going on. But, you know, it really stood out to me when they broke down and had the receivers and defensive backs kind of going one on one. The defensive back play actually looked really good. I mean, Terry on lined up against I'm on Ron every single time they stuck together. Uh, JMO had a couple of different people lined up on him, but I mean, you have Ennis rake straw, Emanuel Mosley, a meek Robertson. I mean, they all looked very physical and looked actually like very effective. Did you notice that?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, they were physical and you could tell it was very sticky coverage and going back to what, you know, talking about Amon I mean, that's pretty awesome that they were going against each other. It's just like, what's kind of what you want to see in practice. You want to see one and one go together. And it. They were beating each other, um, Amun Ra really smoked Tarion one time just coming over the, like, game of, like a fake to the sideline went over the middle. He, he had a lot of separation on that, but Tarion would win the battle too, so it was, it was encouraging. If Tarion can hang with Amun Ra, you can hang with pretty much any, any wide receiver in the game. So, I, I was encouraged by that.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Definitely. I like that. You know, they're, they're. Testing him early and often here, uh, kind of like, you know, what we talked about with Penesul and Aiden Hutchinson. Like when you're going up against him every day in practice, you're going to get really good. It's going to make your life a lot easier when you're going up against the other people in the league.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, exactly, I mean, that's what you want. I mean, that's what, Is so nice about this Lions team is there's so many strengths that you know when you're if you're practicing against say our defensive line against the offensive line offensive line supposed to be best in the league you go against any other offensive line and it's easier than practice so I'm intrigued by, by the defensive and offensive line play. I always have been. It's just. It's, it's what is vital to our success. So, um, you know, but these drills that they were running, these one on one drills were, it was fun with one time, Brian branch tried to line up to guard. Who was he going to go up against?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

It was Jamo. He

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Is it Jim? Yeah. He wanted Jamo and, and I, a coach or someone said, uh, not so fast, Mr. Ranch, that was, I think that was like his first practice because he had lined the day before for the walkthrough. Brian Branch with the pads. This was his actual first practice that he actually played. So, you know, they probably were like Let's let's just take it a little easier.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. I think he was a full participant, but I think they tried to wait for the team drills. They didn't want him to do the one on ones. But man, when he lined up over Jamo, I think all eyes were over there like, Oh man, we've got to see this. It was intense for maybe 10 seconds before they pulled him off. Um, so after the wide receiver and DB one on one, then they did kind of an open field tackling drill. And that was really cool too. That was the receivers, uh, and running backs. And then you have the defensive backs and linebackers. Tight ends were there too. That was a really cool drill to see live. Um, the first thing that stood out was they had Jameson Williams against Ennis rake straw. I think they were like the second ones up, you know, they kind of run like a couple of yards to the outside and then it's basically open field. Then you just have, you know, offense versus defense. And the first time Ennis rake straw kind of, you know, strafe did a step to see which way Jamie was going to juke. And then Jameson Williams puts a shoulder down and runs right through him. over him, gets by the whole crowd. You know, the crowd loves Jamo this year. So everybody thought that was really cool. Second time that they come up, you know, they go through the lineup. Everybody goes. Rake straw was ready for it. The second time, second time they do the same thing. He runs out. It's an open field. Rake straw. I didn't give him a second. He came up and made the contact and got one right back. And that was very cool to see live.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. That drill in particular, I think really, you know, favored the offense cause they basically were in lined up in the middle of the field, kind of ran a sweep to the, you know, to the outside and it was just one on one. So there was no other defenders. It was just one on one. Job, looked unstoppable in this particular drill. Jefferson also looked pretty good in this drill too. So I, it was a, that was a really, that was like one of my favorite, um, parts of all of practice until they got to like actually running the 11 on 11s.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, no, that was very cool. Mine too. It was a cool drill to see.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. I noticed just on the defender's side, Jack Campbell, just. Did not have any luck in this drill, which is kind of discouraging for me. I would think that with his athleticism, that he would excel in these drills, but he, um, maybe it was cause he,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

who he was

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

yeah. And that's what I was going to say. It's maybe it's because he's going against DMO, who's one of the best. Breaking tackles, um, and making people miss. So, uh, you know, but still I would, I would hope that either the three chances that they win again, I was hoping Jack would at least get one, but he didn't, he didn't look particularly good in that drill. I didn't think.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

No, he didn't. Yeah, I felt the same way. You know, we talked about that before too, where you kind of, in these practices, you don't want one side to do so well that the other side doesn't ever win. You want that 50 50. You want them both to kind of get their hits and both kind of look good. And, uh, yeah, I think of the three tries, I think Jack Campbell only actually got to touch him the one.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

He just very shifty, very, you know, very hard to bring down.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

When Ja, Hit Kirby on a juke And then after that, Jamo come out and let Kirby know about it too. It was, that was like the end, that was the last, you know, run of the drill. So those drill was over. So Jamo was not shy about letting him know that he just got beat pretty bad.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Oh, he loves running out there full extension finger in your face pointing you out. I'd like to hear what he's saying to, you know, he's got to be talking smack while he's doing it, but we can only see the finger point.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, we can only get, yeah, we just get the body language on it, but you know, that, I think it's all in good fun. You know, Kirby can talk too, for sure. So I'm sure he's just giving it right back to him, but you know, he had nothing to go back on cause he just got,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

When, when you lose the rep like that,

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

yeah,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

cause that was the one that ended the drill. You kind of just have to sit on that for a little bit.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

yeah, exactly. So let's talk about ones verse ones and two verse twos and threes verse threes. And what we noticed there.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

So next one up, we have the, you know, first team offense going against the first team defense. They're 11 on 11 situational work. The first thing that stood out to me when they line up out there is that Dory's fountains out there with the ones very first round with the ones very first go, he's lined up wide receiver three spot. You know, that I think was. Surprising. I mean, we had heard that he had been looking good in practice, but seeing it live and then they're out there, you see him, I'm on raw and Jamo out there all together. And, uh, you know, honestly he caught a couple of passes and he looked really good. It looked like he was filling in that Josh Reynolds type role for them. You have any idea or any opinion on

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

No. Well, after talking with, you know, Justin Rogers yesterday, um, yeah, he's, you know, he thinks he's the front runner. I wasn't sure, you know, at the time, if they're just trying them out. Cause sometimes the lines I'll put, you know, just test someone's limits and put them out there. But he. It appears that he's the, he's the lead dog now. We have, you know, we had Joint practices earlier today. We've got another set tomorrow. We got three preseason games left. So a lot of things can change between now and then, but Jacob is right. He was impressive. Um, he could make some contested catches. He definitely couldn't high point the ball. Um, and you know, that's kind of replacing the. Josh Reynolds that were, that we, that we missed. You need a big body. We all thought the DPJ was going to be that body, but it's looking like Fountain more and more with each practice. It looks like he's, you know, he might be the guy.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. You know, we, we saw him out there with the ones we, we did see DPJ out there. Obviously it wasn't with the ones he had a chance out there too. Um, I he only caught the one ball when we were there. Just didn't see a whole lot of, out of Donovan people's Jones. I feel that's also kind of what Dan Campbell said before that, he's been around a little bit now. they kind of know what they have in him, but they just, they want to see more. I think we all want it to be there. That's who we wanted it to be. That's, you know, we know what he's capable of doing. Obviously. You know, he was here last year. He's got the Michigan history and everything. We want him to succeed and we want him just to slot right in that Josh Reynolds role. It just doesn't look like it's happening right now. They just need more out of that wide receiver three spot.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. We'll see what happens in these preseason games. Cause they're going to, I, you know, they're probably not going to have many of the number ones play. Um, but I, I expect Fountain to play this, um, this week or this week on Thursday. I, I don't know. I don't think they're going to let him sit, um, because they're going to want to really make sure they, they know what they got, um, with him. I think DPJ did catch a touchdown with the second team. Um, pretty sure he did, but you know, um, you know, so that's good, but I I'd like, I would feel better if they were trading fountain and DPJ out, um, and the first team, if I, if they were really going to give DPJ a solid look, but he's pretty much solid is set with that second team and fountains pretty much set with the first team,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Right. To a certain extent, you know, you're looking at, they're looking at what they have a fountain. They're trying to mix them in with the ones. But if it was a true competition and they don't know exactly who they're going to go with, you would think we would have saw Donovan up there at least a handful of times. I don't, I don't remember seeing him get any rep with the

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I, not that I, unless he like. Less fountain just like set out after running down the field or something like that, and I didn't catch it, but I, it was pretty much exclusively Dory's fountain with the ones and DBJ with the twos that as far as what I noticed. It's kind of hard when you're at practice, cause there is a lot of moving parts and you know, You're trying to focus on everything, um, but you know, it's just what really sticks out to you. The next thing that they did, um, that we saw a lot of, uh, actually at this practice was a kickoff drills. We all got to see this last Thursday and the first preseason game in the hall of fame game. And just to see how they lined up. It. It was so strange. Um, and it looked like the players were even kind of like unsure of what to do. Um, at, at some points, but it was, it was, it was fun. And we got to see Jake Bates kick a lot of different types of kicks.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, they had the actual uh, NFL referees there too, which was nice to try to help them walk through, you know, this particular drill and everything too. Uh, but yeah, even the kicking team just didn't seem to really understand the rule that you can't move until they touch the ball. There are quite a few flags from them running earlier than that. Yeah. So it's definitely something that's going to be an adjustment period trying to get the hang of it.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

So when they did this, they kind of did it at walkthrough speed. So they would kick it off and then they'd start a return. as soon as there was any sort of contact with the runner, they just kind of blew the play dead at that point. So they were just basically, I think, trying to figure out, um, you know, how to defend it and where, you know, they were just at this particular practice, they were trying to see about the different kicks. Cause we saw him do a squib kick. There was like a knuckle kick. They did a high kick. Um, they even did a, like a line drive kick. One was so low, it hit clear door. See right in the back of the head. And he Fell right forward. Um, everyone had a big chuckle when that happened. I'm sure,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

good.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

except for Khalil. I'm sure Khalil did not have a chuckle. Um, so what did you think of the whole kickoff and what do you think, um, we're going to see in this first preseason game coming up on Thursday?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

You know, it looked as strange as I thought it was going to. It was weird seeing that for the first time live. Cause this practice that we saw was before the first preseason game. So that was the first time we got a really good look at it. Um, you know, it definitely was apparent that not everyone knew what was going on. We also don't even know for sure who's going to be on this kick, who's going to be on the coverage team, who's going to be on the blocking. We, you know, they shuffled just everybody around in there. They had different people on the side blocking. I think we mentioned that before. I don't think like Terry on was blocking one time. They had corners, receivers, linebackers, you know, pretty much everybody except the offensive linemen were taking turns in there as the blocking team, as the coverage team And then also for the returners, you had almost every receiver and running back back there, including Amin Ra, Jamo, Jameer Gibbs, Montgomery was back there, Khalif Raymond, pretty much everybody got to turn back there to see what they could do on kickoff team. So it's going to be really interesting to see in the preseason game they put back there and how that's going to look. And it makes you wonder, you know, are they really going to? their cards in the preseason or are we gonna switch that up before the season starts or as the season is going are We gonna constantly make changes to that or are we gonna stick with one coverage team as you would a traditional kickoff?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, I think the interesting thing is we all know what. We want from the kickoff, you know, we want less injuries, more returns. That's, you know, the kind of the impetus of like why we're changing these rules., but what are the unintended consequences of doing this? And, you know, that's yet to be seen. You know, someone's going to figure out some, um, You know, loophole and, you know, then it'll be exposed. And then the way there'd be a rule change or somewhere of different way of officiating it or something like that. So that's what I'm really waiting for is that team to pull out that trick play and be like, Oh, and then everyone, you know, the following week, everyone's practice it and they, they try it. So that'll be interesting.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, there's got to be some loophole or some trick somewhere that someone's gonna come up with

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. Well, I mean, I can't wait. They got two returners back there. It was just. You could have the, the lateral to the side, you could have a reverse where they're sweeping through, you could even have, you know, one of the blockers sweep all the way around and then you reverse it that way. So it'll, it'll be interesting to see, see how, what fun plays it'll, it'll be. I'm, I'm, I'm happy that it's actually going to be a play again, like the kickoffs and actual play as opposed to, you know, commercial break. Kickoff, that's a touchback that was, you know, why did I even come back to the TV to another commercial break? Hopefully we get a play in the middle. That's somewhat exciting.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

For sure

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right. So we're recording this on Monday night. So there was the first, uh, giants lions joint practice was today in New York slash New Jersey. Um, what was the big headline today, Jacob? It was a big boxing match from what I understand.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yes, so that was all the headlines that we're seeing right now is just how physical of a practice that it was. I'm seeing reports that as many as eight fights slash skirmishes happened. Um, some small, some huge and involving the entire offense and defense. Um, you know, reporters from both sides, I've seen some of the beat writers, the giants as well, saying that this was the most physical practice that they have ever seen. And, you know, that's, that's what you want. That's what we expect. You know, when you go to the joint practices that we're going to be physical and we're going to compete, obviously you don't really want the fights, but you know, the hot weather, you got these guys fighting for jobs and everything, you know, the fights are going to happen, not usually to the extent that they happen today. Um, what kind of stood out to you as most?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Well, you know, Dan Campbell's, you know, his press conference said. I had that he was going to look into if, you know, fights started that that goes part of your evaluation. Like if it would, if it happened in a regular season game, would this cost us a penalty or, and there's, you know, some haymakers thrown today. So there was definitely some, uh, negative things I think from these fights, but you're right, Jacob. I mean, this is the first, you know, time that they've seen a, a, Uh, opponent, other than their teammate this season, um, it's hot, you know, you got people fighting for jobs. The lions want to show that we're ready for the season. We're ready for the challenges ahead. And the giants are doing the same thing. They're, they're like, you know, we're not gonna let the lions come in here and push us around. So, you know, did I expect eight fights? No. Would I expect a few? Yeah, I'd expect a couple. So, um, hopefully tomorrow they clean this up and they actually can just practice and, and do well. Norris had a hit that knocked a helmet off. I'm sure that that rubbed people the wrong way. You know, they, you know. Amnurah took exception to someone trying to knock the ball out of his hand after the play's dead. You know, that erupted into a fight. Levi apparently knocked the ball out of Daniel Jones hands. Uh, Dayball was not very happy that there was contact on a quarterback, and I get that. I wouldn't want a guy slapping the ball out of Jared Goff's hands. All you need is someone to slip, break a finger, and then, you know, your season starts out. So I, I get that. I, I, I wouldn't want that either, but you know, it, it is what it is.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

that, you had, I think it was Aleem, you know, Aleem and Alignment. It was the Giants center, of going at it and hit the ground. And then Daniel Jones jumped in, kind of started a skirmish there though, too.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. I mean, tempers are hot all over the place and you know, you want to protect your, your teammates. Uh, I don't think I want, you know, Jared golf jumping in any fights on my side. I don't want to risk that injury, but.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

all.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

You know, Daniel Jones is also in a different spot on his team as far as fighting for respect and all that, then what Jared golf is. So, you know, maybe that's what he felt like he had to do.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I think that's the Giants as a whole though, as well. I mean, if we're looking at it, you know, they're on the opposite end of us. So they're fighting, you know, for respect. They're fighting for a potential playoff spot. They're trying to get the respect and, you know. We know what we did last year. They know what we did last year. I think this also kind of speaks to what we were saying before, that there is definitely a target on our backs. Um, you know, it's not the same old Lions. We're not the game that you circle, because that's going to be an easy week. This is going to be a tough game when we play, and I think everybody's going to bring their best when they play against us. And it started right away. It started in these joint practices. I think the Giants said they can't be shown up by us. They can't. You know, when it's in New York, or it's in New Jersey, they can't let us come to their house and just embarrass them in the practice.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

A couple of the Giants beat writers had mentioned that they were happy with that the Giants O line stood up against our stout defensive line, which is nice to hear that, you know, the opinion on the other side is that our defensive line is very good. I was, however, disappointed that that offensive line was able to hold up our defensive line. I really thought that we'd generate a lot more pressure. Um, speaking of,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

a lot where it's like 50 50

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

yeah,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

You know, so you'd expect their beat writers to try to lean towards them a little more, and ours to lean towards us.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I agree.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I've heard, it's a lot of 50 50, there are a lot of wins. We didn't want 50 50 though, we wanted to embarrass them and we wanted to show our dominance.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

You want Hutchinson to dominate? You want, I mean, Aleem had I mean, there's a video out there of him just, like, pushing the center all the way back to the quarterback in one of the drills. So, I mean, there was some dominance showed there. Um, Giants had some dominance too, though. I heard Brian Burns was constantly in the Lions backfield, which surprises me. But Brian Burns is a talented player, so, you know. Tomorrow, I expect a physical practice. I expect less fights, but I still expect a really physical practice, and I expect the Lions to look better tomorrow. I think they're to excel in some of these areas that maybe they did not excel in today.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Tomorrow is also the last joint practice with the Giants, correct? They just have the Monday Tuesday.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, and then they'll have, well, Wednesday off, and then the preseason game is Thursday.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

for a lot of these people, uh, you know, they're looking for action right now They're not gonna get to play in the preseason game or not much So they're you know, they're trying to get their work in right now in the joint practices.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Oh, yeah.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Agree, it's gonna be physical, but hopefully, you know They kind of talked to them about maybe toning it down a little bit and not risking injury because we did have a few injuries today also

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, that's what I was going to get to, you know, Tarion being evaluated for a concussion. We won't know until the morning how that would go. My thought is they're probably just going to shut him down. If they even suspect a concussion, there's no long, they're not going to want to risk that, um, prolonging. So I don't think he's going to play. Zeitler left with a shoulder injury. We don't know the extent of that. I mean, I, he could come back and play just depending on how, you know, how Bad, that is. Tarion, though, I would be pretty surprised if he Practices tomorrow and, and then if he doesn't practice tomorrow, I don't know if he's going to play in the game, which is really a disappointment because I was really looking forward to seeing him play in that game, even though that he's the presumed starting corner, they, they, you know, Jack Campbell played a sizable amount of the preseason last year, and I'm thinking they were going to do the same thing with Terry on let him play.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, definitely. I mean, I saw the clip though. I don't know. You've seen it too, where, you know, it's Andrew Thomas. It's the all pro tackle for the giants coming in basically helmet first, helmet to helmet with Terry on. It was a tough hit.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, and it's really uncalled for. I mean, Andrew Thomas is like twice the size of Tarion. I mean, he, he doesn't need to come in that forceful. I mean, his body is going to block all of Tarion's body. You know, I get it. You're going to play hard and maybe the temper, tempers being flared contributed to that, but I take exception to him lowering his head and just slamming it right in and into Terry and that was unnecessary. And especially in a practice, um, we're talking practice and my, if I do my, uh, best Allen Iverson right there. Um, but on a good note, JMO looked dominant again. Um, just keep showing out practice after practice. So I, this is not an aberration at this point. I, I fully expect him to have, you know, his best season and we needed that. So I, I I'm really encouraged by what I'm seeing from him.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Definitely his, you know, ability to get open, you know, that was something we talked about playing against a different team that you don't really know the defense the same way that you know our own team's defense. he's going up against these other people that aren't used to him and he's not used to them and he's still able to get open. He's still able to break. He had one deep ball and one of them I think was a red zone play where he kind of just got open in the back of the

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. Both those plays, there was no one around him too, it was like, uh, that red zone play doesn't, like, I don't know why, we don't see the whole play cause, you know, this isn't how the practice cameras go, but it didn't look like there was anyone around him and then the other deep throw that he had. Their deep shot that a cat, um, he, he was like a good two yards past the defender. What defender wasn't even close to knocking that ball down. So, you know, it's great. We need him to show that speed. And, uh, it's really nice to see golf hitting them right in stride too. I, I I'm encouraged by that.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Right? There was another, uh, I didn't see the video of, but I did see the report, it was Fountain had a huge deep ball, and I guess he walked in the end zone, the coverage was gone on that one too, he just beat them deep, and Goff hit him with a perfect ball.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, yeah, I saw that. So, I mean, that's just another feather in the cap for Fountain, right? I mean, he's just stacking days now. He had that one really bad practice last week, uh, and he dropped, you know, a couple bad passes, but he didn't, seems like he's bounced back pretty good, which is, you know, for a guy fighting for a job, you need to stack good days and you can't let one bad day get, Take it out of hand and we'll see how he looks tomorrow and we'll see how I expect him to play Thursday So I I'm really looking forward to that's one of the guys that I'll be keeping my eye on on Thursday for sure

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, definitely. He's got a lot riding on this preseason. I mean, he's got a lot riding on the practices though, and he's been, you know, like you said, he had a bad one, but he's been showing up ever since then, he's just been getting better and better.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

You know Another thing that I'll mention Justin Rogers mentioned today that Hennon hooker is lined up with the threes And he had the least amount of time on the field for all the quarterbacks. So I found that curious. I thought they would want to get them more time on the field with another team, but maybe tomorrow's the day where he's going to line up with the twos and get more time, or they plan on playing them extensively in the preseason game. And they don't want to, you know, get, you know, tire him out or whatever. Um, so I I'm curious by that. Um, do you have any thoughts on that or what, what you're seeing? Do you think that means anything or is that just, you know, what, how they lined it up today?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

No, I mean, I think that they're just putting You know, based on how the practices have been going and based on how their preparedness and readiness, that just seems like Sudfeld's above him. But that's also concerning. Cause I think, uh, ideally it seems like anyway, golf and hooker one and two, and then Sudfeld's your third guy. Sudfeld's the one that's going on the practice squad and he's the emergency quarterback. But I mean, how the things have been going, I don't know that you can do that anymore. I think you have to keep all three.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, that's the concerning part is just the roster construction aspect of it. If you have to keep three quarterbacks who you knock on off your team, because we're seeing a lot of competition all over and those roster spots are at a premium, you know, cause you're taking the risk of losing someone you'd rather have. So, because you're probably not going to lose Nate to anybody, he's going to pass through waivers. You're going to be able to put him on his practice squad. He's going to take that because he's used to being on this team and he's going to want a job as opposed to no job. As opposed to cutting someone else that probably is not going to make it through waivers and, you know, is going to end up on someone else's team. So I'm hoping that Hendon can, can show out, you know, in these, in these preseason games, because, you know, if he keeps playing the way he's playing, they're not showing very much confidence that if he was number two, that, you know, if Jared got hurt to have him come in and be able to win some games for you or hold down the fort for a couple of games, why, you know, Jared's resting up or whatever. So it's not encouraging, but you know, it's early, we got some time, but. You know, it's, it, you know, it's three games, so he's got to show a lot in these, these upcoming games, but he'll get plenty of time to play because I don't see golf playing at all. You got two quarterbacks, so it might be a half and a half, or maybe they're going to give Hendon a longer look and give him three quarters and give Sutfeld one. I'm curious. I don't know how that's going to work, but, um,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

feel like they should do half and half for the first game. And then based on how the next week of practices and everything goes, then you kind of need to see much further up to speed do we need to get hooker?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

yeah,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

front, do you talk to Nate Sedfeld about that? Do you let him know ahead of time? Like the plan is, you know, if we do have to cut you, we want you to come back on the practice squad. You know, they did that with David Blau and you know, Blau didn't want to go to the practice squad for us. He ended up going to the Vikings, I believe. Right. mean,

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Then he ended up being back. Nate had his chance last. Last, uh, spring, or last, uh, fall, and he didn't He didn't really show up in practice last year and then he ended up, unfortunately, getting injured. So I, I don't know how much he's on the radar for other teams. He's more valuable to us than to other teams, just because Jared really likes him, um, does all the things that a backup quarterback needs to do, all the scouting and all that stuff. So, we'll see. I mean, we've still got some time, but I, you know, I, The plan has to be keep Hooker and put Sudfeld on the practice squad, but that only works if you think Hooker can handle the number two spot and carry you through, and as of right now, that's probably not, um, in the cards,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

That's plan A. It's just, you know, as each practice, everything goes by, it's looking more and more that we're going to need to revert to plan B or do something else,

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

right?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

which hopefully, you know, he shows out in the preseason, he's got more, know, a complete game, you know, instead of just having a few reps with the threes, like you said, he didn't get as much practice time as anybody else. He's going to have plenty of time in the preseason game. Hopefully we see more out of him.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, and we got to remember, so I wouldn't get too discouraged on Hendon. You know, he hadn't played in a game in a year and a half, you know, since his injury. He's been out, For a long time, they're asking him to do a lot of different stuff in this offense than they did at Tennessee, where it was more of a one read, quick throw offense. You know, they're asking him to make multiple reads. So, they're putting a lot on his plate. So, I'm not writing him off by any means. I, I just think it might be just take a little longer than what we as fans want to take. We want him to just take that spot. Um, but, you know, he's just not ready yet. That's okay. We've seen other players that, uh, Brad Holmes has drafted that haven't looked ready. And then, you know, suddenly they do. J Mo is one of them. You know, if he's another one, Derek Barnes is another one where, you know, yeah, you want them to develop as fast as possible, but some guys just take a little bit longer and I, you know, at the quarterback position, he's got a lot to learn. Like I said, he hasn't played in a year and a half, not, I'm not writing him off yet.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

No. Well said. Agree. I mean, there's no pressure on him right now, you know, to have to get out there and perform right away.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

No, I mean, Jared gets hurt, then we're, we're struggling a little bit, but I mean, that's pretty much,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

we need them up to speed.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

yep. And you know, it is what it is. So we'll, we'll see how it goes. But we also have a pretty darn good running game that I feel back, feel good about falling back on and, you know, leaning on that a little bit had we, you know, if we have to go that route, but you know, that's not gonna happen. So we'll be all right. Uh, another interesting thing that I think That, um, Dan Campbell announced at his press conference that actually happened during practice was they put iffy out there at nickel. So they're trying a lot of people out at nickel there. Um, I know what my read is on it, but I kind of want to hear what, why you think they did that Jacob before we, um, before I give my answer.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Well, I mean, I think obviously the benefit is that you get to have branch iffy and Kirby on the field at the same time. That's what we talked about before. If he's able to play nickel, then you can have them all out there. He's able to blitz off the edge like he was able to before. Um, just makes the defense more dynamic. Um, that being said, as far as actually dropping back and being into pass coverage, I don't think that he's on the level of what we've seen from Amik or Mosley, who are the other ones kind of fighting for that nickel spot.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, I think this is just a matter of, you know, certain packages. He might get thrown in there, uh, just depending on the opponent that you're playing and, and things of that nature. It's also just to give you more versatility and just know, I mean, this doesn't mean, Hey, we plan on doing iffy at nickel. It's like, let's see if, if you can do nickel and then that gives us more options, but you know, that's what these practices are for is just to try this things out and see where, you know. Where you could put a guy because injuries happen, obviously, uh, players performance could be up or down and you just might need to move, move some pieces around. So it's nice to know, you know, who can take a hold of a certain position, but like you said, you know, with the branch and Kirby and iffy at safety rotation, it'd be nice to get one of them over. Dan Campbell seems to really want branch back in that safety position because they think that he can make more plays back there. But if he, you know, especially like last year made a lot of plays and it seems like a waste to have him sitting on the bench, so if we can keep on the field, that's good too. Um, it's like an embarrassment of riches at the nickel position right now. We're just seeing who shakes out, but, um, hopefully, you know, whoever takes it over, just, you know, takes it and runs with it.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Definitely.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Um, the only other thing I'd, you know, just, uh, you know, uh, neighbors for the Giants look. Look pretty good today. I was going to say, I, um, you know, and I think he could be a receiver for them. He had that nice, well, they whistled it out of bounds on iffy and that sideline, but, um, it might've been a catch. It was hard to tell. So he had a really nice catch over there and I think he had some other nice plays throughout the day. So that's a good challenge for our corners. I mean, we want to go up against some, you know, top notch receivers and, you know, neighbors may be it for the Giants,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, I didn't get to see exactly who he went up against or how the rest of it played out. Um, but I did hear the same thing. I heard he was impressive. He made a lot of good catches. I saw that same highlight against Ify, where it was kind of a zone coverage. was just a second late getting there. Uh, that probably would have been a reviewable play because the ref ruled that Napiers was out of bounds, but he might've got both feet in. Who knows if he had the ball under control.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

right? It's just practice.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

bottom line. I mean, it was

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

to call it a catch and it was impressive.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right, so it leads into the preseason game which is coming up in Thursday, seven o'clock, it's going to be on Fox two. So you're going to be able to see it locally. It's also going to be streamed on, I think Detroit lions. com. It'll be replayed on NFL network. So if you miss it, you might be able to catch it there too. So everyone, you know, in the local area should be able to see it. But I think if you're non local, you might be able to do Detroit lions. com to be able to check it out. So what are you looking for? What what's, I mean, what's going to be your focus on this in this preseason game, Jacob?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Uh, kind of been the theme that we've been talking about already, but I obviously want to see the quarterbacks and see how well, you know, Hennon Hooker and Nate Sedfield, how they run the offense. Really looking at Fountain, Donovan Peoples Jones, and Antoine Greene. Trying to see the receiver play there. And really just how our defensive backs look. You know, obviously we were hoping to see Terry on. That may not happen. Um, but we are going to get to see Rake Straw. You know, they're probably going to have Mosley and Amik out there. And just, you know, see what they can do. What about

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I. I'm, out of everybody, I, well, Hennenhooker I want to see just cause I just want to see how he performs in a game. I'm just really curious about that. Rakestraw is the guy that I'm going to be keeping my eye on. I, uh, I really want to see, I, the way he's playing in training camp, you know, he's got three picks last week, which some of it was just being at the right place at the right time. There was, you know, the one pick that we're, we're, we're at Nate Sumpfeld made a terrible throw and it was basically right to rake straw, but he's, you know, he, he caught it. So that's good. But I, I. I think we might have still won in the second round with Rijkstra. I, I'm getting this feeling, and, uh, just, he looks like a baller, he looks like a Dan Campbell guy. He's a dog in the, you know, he's gonna get in the run game, he's gonna stop it there. I, I, I'm feeling that, really good about Rijkstra. I, you know, I'm not saying he's gonna come out and just, you know, Be a number one or number two right now, but, uh, he's going to develop and, um, I'm, I'm pretty happy with that pick. I'm glad that they doubled up. I'm, you know, Justin Rogers said that, you know, in his opinion, that Tarion is ahead of where Darius Slay was. Which is good. Cause obviously Darius Slay was, you know, best cornerback we had in a long time. Um, but Darius Slay didn't have a really good first season either. So, I mean, there's still some growing pains for these rookie cornerbacks. So even if they don't show up right away, as long as they're making progress and getting better. I don't think there's anything to worry about like a Jeff Okuda situation or anything like that. But I going back to rake straw, really want to see him play. And I, and, and if Tarion's out, I'm expecting to see a lot of rake straw, especially like in the first half.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, definitely. I mean, he's made the most of every opportunity and every rep that he's gotten so far. So yes, that's really, really something I want to see in the joint practices and something I really want to see in the preseason too.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

So that, that'll be good. So we actually get to watch some football this Thursday from our team. You know, we get to watch the lions, which, uh, it's going to be really exciting. And honestly, Jacob, for me, we're going to be looking at it a little differently now, cause we're going to be talking about it with, on this podcast. Right. I mean, Before, you know, I could, you know, watch some of the preseason game and, you know, kind of check in and out with the family and stuff, but I'm going to feel a little bit more pressure to write notes and stuff for now. So,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Are you actually going to make the notes or are you just going to steal mine again?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I don't know. I don't know what I'm going to feel like. I don't know what I'm going to feel like.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

At least you get the benefit of re watching the game over again and the highlights.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

practice.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, that's the tough part, right? Because you're just like, at practice, there is no replay. You're just You know, you either saw it or you didn't see it. Um,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Right.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

you know, but it is what it is. We forgot to mention Golden Tate's coming back. So, he's supposed to be on the broadcast team. So, kind of curious how he does. I always liked Golden when he was Playing with the lions, so, that'll be fun, and, uh, you know, he, he's not gonna shy away from an opinion, uh, based on what, how we saw with him when he was here, so, I, I'm excited for that, so, we'll see how that goes.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

He's, you know, well loved

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yes,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

So,

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

for sure. Alright, so, let's get to it. Uh, I got some questions for Jacob, Jacob's got some questions for me, we're gonna do the Honolulu Blitz. Alright, first question, who caught Jared Goff's first touchdown pass as a Lion? So when Jared Goff was a Lion that first game, who caught the first touchdown pass?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Oh man,

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

That's gonna be a tough one.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

that is a tough one. Let's see. Give me a minute here. I'm going back.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

He's no longer on the team, I'll give you a hint. It is TJ Hawkinson, six yard touchdown pass against San Francisco. All right. And we talked, we mentioned this guy earlier in the podcast. What team is Jeff Okuda on right now? Do you know?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

the Falcons.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Nope. And that was the last year he left the Falcons.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

else.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. I signed with the Houston Texans.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I was going to say Texans,

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yep. I signed with them.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

but I haven't seen anything about him.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah. Uh, man.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

He's a into a death piece

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, he did. All right. So I don't know if you saw this earlier or not, it was on Twitter, wherever read it, uh, Amin Ra said he would buy anything for Jameer Gibbs if he went a thousand yards and both rushing and receiving, if you did that, what would you have Amin Ra buy you?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

well, you're already NFL player. So, I mean, you pretty much have everything that you want

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right. I know, but

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

something like that, you'd have to go big,

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

yeah,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

right?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

yes.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

You buy me a car.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right. Uh, in your opinion, who's going to lead the NFL in receiving yards this year?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I'm gonna say Tyreek Hill.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

You're going to say Dyrick? Uh, I was thinking about it. This guy got injured today in practice, but with Stafford back there, Puka Nikuas. If Stafford latches onto you, you might, you're going to lead the league in receiving.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

keep getting fed the ball, tons of receptions. I'm thinking Tyreek just because of how the, you know, deep threat. And then even if the game isn't going well, you know, Tyreek could get four catches, but he still might have 150, 160 yards.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

What is your favorite all time video game?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Favorite all time video

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

That's a tough one, but I'm going to say left for dead. I think I

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

okay,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

at work because JJ is starting to play it, but the most played video games I think I played are left for dead or rock band. Um,

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

okay,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

is just, you know, a fun one that I play with my friends and family. Also, Halo is another one that comes to mind or Grand Theft Auto

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

alright. Alright, that was number five, my turn.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right, here we go. How many lions round one draft picks currently play for the team?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Round one draft picks, alright. Let's see here, you got Taylor, you got Frank, you got Panay, Jameer. Let's see, and then JMO, so what's that, that's six, right? And then, on the defensive side, you'd have Aiden, Tarion, so we're up to, what's that, seven, I think? Seven or eight? Um, there's probably a backup I'm not thinking about. I'm going to say eight.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, you got it.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Alright.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

them all too.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, yeah. All right.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Jameer Gibbs, Jack Campbell, Hutchinson, Jamo, Penesul, Frank Ragnow, Taylor Decker.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right. All right. Feeling pretty good.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

think that one out.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Supposed to be the Honolulu Blitz. You're supposed to be quick

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I, well, I mean, you think I have that memorized in my head, how many number one picks? Yeah.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

that because the next one's gonna be the exact same for

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

uh, from 2000 to 2010, how many different head coaches did the Lions

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Oh, geez, old Pete's.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

For that 10 year period.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, I'm just gonna guess. Let's see. Let's see. I'm gonna say four.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

So there were actually seven in those 10

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Oh,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

I

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

him.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

that one or two may have been interim coaches,

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

was gonna say, yeah.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

back to 2000, you see of Jim Schwartz, Rod Marinelli, Dick Duran,

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Steve Mariucci, Morninwig, Gary Moeller, Bobby Ross.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, so, yep, two of those are interim.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

and Dick Duran

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, they were, they were interims, yeah. I think Gary Moeller just, yeah, he put, like, four, four games, but,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Right.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

yeah. Alright. Former

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right, let's see what former Detroit lion leads us in pro bowl appearances by an offensive lineman

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Detroit Lion. I mean, You say former, so is he retired?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

currently active. He's

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Okay.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Just it wasn't anybody on the team's what I was

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Okay. Lomas. I'm going to go Lomas Brown.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

You are

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right. Lomas.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

appearances So let's see if we could only put two players on kick return for the whole season. What two guys are you picking? if you had to set two and they had to be back there the whole year.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Okay, well, are we like taking into consideration injuries or I just want my best returners back there?

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

No, just your best two

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Just, well, I'm going to put Jamo Gibbs back there because

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

But

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

of my two fastest guys and, uh, Gibbs can also has the running back set. So those are the two that I put back there for sure.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

agreed hard to bring down an open field to.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

All right, if you could only eat at one restaurant for the rest of your life, where would you pick?

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Oh my God. One restaurant. Oh man. Wow. Um, know this is, like, stupid, but I really like Outback Steakhouse. I, I just like their food. I mean, honestly, if I could pick somewhere, you know, I'd go somewhere super nice, but I'm just saying the place that I would eat regularly and I'd, I could find, uh, yeah, I'd go Outback. I, I like, I like a lot of things on their menu, so, uh. They're not like,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

answer

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

yeah,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

answer

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

So Outback Steakhouse, they could sponsor us if they want. So,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

you want to try an Australian accent

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

no, I don't know, mate. I don't want to do that. Uh, it's good, good, just having a podcast with just you and me. I enjoyed that a lot. Um, you know, it was fun. Uh, so, uh, you know, we only had one, uh, feedback on our podcast in the last week, and it was a guy that was very unhappy with, uh, us giving, uh, JJ McCarthy praise. Um, I, you know, just seemed to take exception that we were Michigan fans, I feel, but, you know. I, it's hard to judge how, what JJ is going to do. I hope that he, uh, does well for JJ, but not, I don't want, I want his team to lose. So it is what it is. That guy had his opinion and that's fine. I mean, I, we tried it. I mean, if I'm just fanboying or whatever, I want to let you know that, you know, that's just me rooting for someone that's not NFL analysis. Cause at the time when we're doing it in the summer, we don't know he has any in practice yet, but he has looked pretty good in practice from what we understand. So. You know, who knows, you know, it's early.

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Right, I get it though. I understand if you're not a Michigan fan, and you know, we're, I guess, not so much rooting for the other team, but you know, like you said, we want JJ to do well, uh, we just don't want the Vikings to do well.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

Yeah, exactly. There,

jacob_1_08-05-2024_213602:

for 5, 000 yards and the Vikings can win one game all year and that would be great.

jason-harwood_1_08-05-2024_213602:

well, it could be a Stafford situation, right? Where he just like does all that, but he's just not enough to enough to win the will them to games. Right. So, but, um, again, write to us, send us a message. We'll give you a shout out. You can get the send, you know, text, uh, you know, We're still, you know, yesterday we interviewed Justin Rogers, we're still kind of, you know, reeling from that, being excited about that. So keep, uh, go ahead and listen to that episode if you haven't listened to it. It was really good, really informative, really liked that, uh, talk and he was, you know, gave us a lot of time. It was really nice. So, and I was, uh, drive to New Jersey. So, uh, All right. So we will hit you back next week. We'll be able to talk about the preseason game, what we saw, that's what we plan on talking about. And, um, anything else that's developed in practice in between now and then. If you got any questions, any things that you want us to comment on, please send us a message either through Spotify or just click on that, send us a text message in our, um, right in your podcast thing, and it'll go directly to us. But remember, if you do that, put your name, um, on there, cause. We don't get any names of who that comes from there. So we can give you a shout out. And when we ask you a question, so for Jacob, I'm Jason go lions.
