jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Welcome everybody to talking grit. I'm Jason Harwood and with me is Jacob Litton. We're going to finally get into it. The game recap of preseason game number three with the Pittsburgh sealers Lions come out victorious on this one. With a score of 24 to 17. End score is not the major story of this game, although it is nice to come away with a win. But ultimately, that's not really what's going to matter here. Jacob, what'd you think about the game?

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Well, first impression of the game, right away, is how good do those uniforms look?

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah, they are, they're sharp, man. That blue just looks right on. You're right. It's perfect. There's not really much I would, I would change about it.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

it's completely indescribable, it's just perfect.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

exactly.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

my veins.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Go that far, huh? Alright, well, Jacob wants a fashion show. No, I do. Well, the blue face mask, which I know you like, and yeah, everything's great. The white numbers, just everything about it just is great. the right amount of pop in it.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

So anyway, uniforms look great product on the field right away. Did not,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

you know, the Steelers, they go with their starters out there, um, you know, with our second and third team. It's expected that we were going to struggle, I guess, so that we weren't going to play very well. But we went down 14 0 pretty early. How are you feeling at the beginning of the

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Well, I mean You don't ever want to see your team just get manhandled. It was just the thing that we were getting manhandled. Remind yourself that they're playing ART1s. We're playing really twos and threes. It's almost threes out there. Um, You would like them to hold a little bit more of their own. I mean, I thought the twos, I mean, they were playing twos and some starters against Patrick Mahomes and we looked pretty good against that offense last week,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Right.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

of hoping for a similar sort of progress against the Steelers, but it didn't happen. We were down 14, nothing really, really fast, but once. They, Sealy's got their starters out there. It really showed how deep our roster is. Cause we really kind of just dominated, um, outside of a few throws, we've pretty much dominated, um, both sides of the ball, I thought,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah. I mean, other than that isolated, I mean, the first drive even, where they had the starters out there, they only really had those two big plays. There was a, you know, third and long, they turned into a huge gain, and then Patterson with the huge run. It was definitely, it was chunk plays like that. it seemed like they were moving the ball pretty easily. We were not like you said, once the, once their starters went out and it was kind of our twos versus their twos and threes, um, level playing field, I guess you would say that's when we came back and really. You know, started to dominate, I guess, because, you know, we basically gave him a 14 point lead. We came back and win the game.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

right. You know, and I think. The way Hennon, I mean, Hennon got sacked like five times, like three consecutive plays gets sacked, fumbles on the last one, they give up the ball. So

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

was terrible,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

you're like, Oh my God, this is terrible. And what I liked about that is how Hennon Hooker responded. Um, I still thought even having, they got the ball back, cause you know, they played them three full quarters, right? They, he did not look rushed. And for a guy that's got, you know, that can run, you kind of, if he was, you Feeling that pressure, he would have just taken off, but I still felt like he was making all his reads and then running at the last resort. And, uh, Dan Campbell said that in his press conference, he mentioned that right away is how, how this kid responded. And that's what really impressed me is that he didn't look rushed. He stayed in the pocket. He, you know, he did his reads and then, you know. He can use his legs and get the first down when he needs to, but that's not what he's looking for. He doesn't get happy feet and he does what he's supposed to do. I know it was really rough at the beginning, but it really impressed me how he responded.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah, you can you can tell he's going through all his progressions and doing what he's supposed to be doing. It just was, you know, he's holding on. It just seemed like when he did talk to try to get out of the situation, it was always just a second too late. Like the pressure was just too close. And then it was sack after sack after sack, which is obviously not what you want to see, but at the same time they have their starters in there. We have our backup offensive line. And, you know, he's really, he's trying to, he's trying to make a throw. He's not just trying to advance the ball with running. He's trying to make a throw. He's looking for every avenue to make that possible.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I will say if you look at the press conference afterwards, he's a very mature person. I don't know how old, what's he 26 now? Or he's, he's fairly close to Jared Goff's age. I don't know. You could tell that he is more mature and he took his job seriously. And I thought he played pretty well after that first couple of series. And I don't think necessarily that was all his fault. He really had very little time. I haven't had a chance to go back and look and see what his receivers looked like on there, but he basically had time to make one read and then, you know, if he tried to run, it was too late, they were just on top of them. That says more about the offensive line play, playing against number ones, than it did say about Hooker. But the way Hooker responded, like I said, was really impressive, and that was the story for me.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Right. I mean, I, I do think they kind of, for the most part, they gave him a clean pocket for a second, but like you kind of mentioned the receivers, the, you know, we'll look more in depth, but it didn't look like they were getting any separation. They weren't even giving him a chance to throw the ball.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I won't say none other receivers stood out, but there was still wasn't the separation that you want to see, um, you know, the only one, you know, and this is going to lead right into the wide receiver talk. The only one that's making any splash in that is Isaiah Williams, in my opinion, um, and a lot of that was special teams play. He only caught one pass in the game. Um, and then there was the interception that went off his hands, both Hooker and Williams took responsibility for that. Which I expect them to do, and they're not going to say the other person,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

right, right. Just a bad play.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

yeah, well, it looked like Williams thought it was a zone. He was going to sit down in the zone, whereas Hooker wanted him to finish the route, and he threw the ball to lead him, and, you know, he tipped it, and to whose hands did he tip it into?

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah, I was gonna ask you about that. Do you think that Cam Sutton celebrated a little too much for a preseason interception, or?

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yelp, and, you know, what did he expect the Lions to do? I don't know. You don't contact them. You don't

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

know if that's, you know, uh, a chip on the shoulder kind of thing, or like, you know, if he somehow felt like we wronged him, or if he's just trying to make up for the fact that he's not gonna be playing for the next eight games, and this is the, uh, Highest hype he's gonna have for a little while.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah, I, I don't know. I mean, it was weird. I mean, maybe it's also the response of, you know, Lions fans not really looking fondly of his time with the team and, and just, you know, punting the ball to them. But yeah, it was a little bit over the top for me in a preseason game, especially when you're playing that late in a preseason game, and you're gonna do that. Let's let's stick with the wide receivers any other players move the needle one way or the other for you? All

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I mean, I'm gonna sound like a broken record here, but there's just nothing positive to say about Dory's Fountain or Donovan Peoples Jones. And that's every, every week since training camp, it's been, those are the guys we've been looking at who's going to separate themselves. And after every single, you know, you go back every game recap we've had, it's been disappointing or that we just haven't quite seen enough out of them. And this was the last chance for them to make an impression and zero catches. of them caught a ball.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

right

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

you know, somebody that we don't mention a whole lot that seemed to actually make a better impact was Marissa Alexander. And I know we talked about him in the return game a little bit, but he actually was the leading receiver today.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

a couple, uh, you know, a couple deep catches a couple impact catches, too. So that was cool to see for him. But you got somebody like that making an impact and making the catches. You would have hoped that one of the other guys would have been able to do that with their time, and they didn't, so,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah. It was disappointing, jury's fond through the preseason games, played himself off the roster from, you know, from our interview, you know, in a short time, our interview with Justin Rogers was like, yeah, he, you know, Justin thought that he was a front runner and we saw him in practice. He was playing with all the ones, um, make it some pretty good catches. And then it's been downhill since then he drops in practice and then not. Showing up for the games So I

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

quite make sense to me, honestly. I mean, to see how he was in practice, and to see how he started off at camp, like, I don't understand the falloff, I don't understand how there's, you know, no separation whatsoever.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I don't know if they were putting too much on his plate and they were keeping it simple at the beginning It's hard to tell pressure affects people, you know, a lot of different ways So maybe it was just getting to him the Donovan people's Jones thing is interesting because he's been in the league but You know, three targets today, zero catches for zero yards. Man, it's going to be hard to justify keeping him on the roster. I, you know, and he doesn't have a big salary, so it's not like you're going to take a big salary cap hit by cutting him. So I don't know.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Right, right. That's, uh, it's gonna be interesting to see what they decide to do there.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I think Isaiah Williams or Maurice Alexander may give some food for thought. Maurice Alexander had a good game. He's got some special team prowess. Um, Isaiah Williams has played, I mean, I don't think he's going to be primary, you know, returner or anything like that, but he's shown he's got the ability to make some people miss. So, I mean, he's got that in his back pocket. Is that going to be enough to keep him on the roster?

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

It goes back to the size issue.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Because, I mean, then we would have, you know, then JMo and Amun Ra are the only two receivers on the team bigger than six foot.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

But it's, uh, at the end of the day, can you get open and Jared Goff will find you, you want someone, especially on third down or goal line situations where you've got a big body and you can post up someone, or you can, you know, just, you know, body block someone and catch the ball and give them a big target.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Right.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

It could lead to someone that's not on the roster right now, um, working, um, working his way onto the roster, either through a trade or, you know, we just, you know. Signed someone that gets cut Isaiah Williams did play like some of the Z position. He said in his interview He said Khalif told him get ready You may you know, maybe called on to do that and the fact that they're trying him there means the Lions You know want to see what he can and can't do so Depends on what that tape shows him if he there, you know, if he's gonna make the roster or not He had a pretty good preseason. So we'll see.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

He did. Um, something else I want to talk about, you know, back to, I know we just talked about Hennon Hooker, but the other quarterback on the roster, uh, Nate Sudfeld. Didn't even play.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

He's active. He doesn't play. And then Jake from who we fully expected, I fully expected anyway, did not expect him to actually get any game time in the preseason, especially when Hendon was playing late into the third quarter. It kind of seemed like they were just going to let him play this game. Um, and then Jake from comes in. And actually looks impressive

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

look better than Sudfeld ever has.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah You

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

of that?

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

You know, it's hard to tell. It's late in the fourth quarter, last preseason game. He's not seeing, you know, anything. Much on defensively. They have the bottom of the roster for the sealers out there. However, his arm look live. He was making very good throws. I leaned over to Preston when they put from, and I was like, Oh, get ready for three straight run plays. That's what I was expecting that they were just like, you know, we're going to run, run the run as much clock out, punt it back to them. And, you know, I told Preston, get prepared. We, they might tie this up, you know, just depending on how it goes. But then, you know, second down from throws a rope. And I was like, Okay. All right. So, and I kept letting him throw and the more he was throwing, I was like, you know, I, I'm not going to read too much into thinking, Hey, you know, he's heir apparent or anything like that. That's, let's not get crazy. But did he give me some thought about it, about him possibly making the practice squad or something like that? Is that, you know, an even option? I don't know, you know, or God forbid someone gets hurt in the years and he's not on someone else's team. Team, you know, would the Lions look his way or did he give it another team, you know food for thought to be like I want him, you know get him, you know, if he You know, another practice spot. And I don't think he's going to be anyone's main backup based on just what he played, but could he played himself on to, if he's not on the lions practice squad, could he make another team's practice squad?

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah. I don't know if they kind of gave that to him. Like, uh, you know, he came in, what was it? 12 days ago was when he signed as a camp body late in the year. I don't know if they kind of gave this to him. Like, you know, here's your chance. We'll do you a solid, let you get some game film out there and, you know, then you can show it for other teams or just see how it goes, And then, you know, he, he made the most of his opportunity. So now you kind of have to think, do we try to get him on the practice squad? I mean,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

So here's the timeline for me. Okay. So earlier this week, someone asked. Dan Campbell about the quarterbacks, like when we're going to see them and who we're going to see. He led off with, we want to start Hennon hooker. We think he left there. He basically, you know, alluded to that. We're not going to see from that. He would not expect him to see from obviously we saw from today, something changed and so in the post game, uh, press conference, someone asked him about, you know, seeing Jake from, and they said that he's picked up the offense. Quicker than they expected. He ran a two minute offense in their last practice and, and it showed something to Campbell. So, it wasn't an accident that he played. It just wasn't. They're, they're, Some, they're testing out something, um, or they're given from a solid just because of the hard work that he put in for 12, you know, 12 days with lines the, let's, let's talk about the other quarterback. Nate Seinfeld didn't play today.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

leave him?

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Right. What, you know, that, I think that's the real question is why didn't he, and we'll find out in a couple of days, right? I mean, why didn't he play at all? I mean, it's not like he lit it up in the two preseason games, right? Where you're like, Oh, well, he's definitely our backup.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Right.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

It's interesting. I mean, I, they gave Hendon three quarters. They wanted to see what they had. You know, Dan Campbell said he was impressed with how Hooker responded. It's gonna be interesting. When we put our rosters together, I have more to think about because I had, I had my thoughts on the quarterback room pretty set before this game. You know, I don't think Jake Fromm enters in this conversation about making the 53. Not even, not gonna happen. However Nate not playing, and Hendon playing all three quarters, and then, you know, them bringing Fromman instead of Nate. There's, I'm gonna have to think about my

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Right.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

construction a little bit more,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Right.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

right? So it wasn't,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

interesting.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

it wasn't an accident that that happened. So, you know, and Nate had his helmet on, but they just never called his number. So,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Right. Which leads you to believe, I mean, he's active, he's there, he may have expected that there might be a shot for him to play. He probably went into it thinking he was going to get some game time.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

yes.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

it's not that, you know, he did so well in the other game that we've seen what we need to see out of him. I think it's, you know, leaning the other way.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah, that's what, um, that's what I'm thinking too. If he's gonna be your second in command, and You know, wouldn't you want to get him some reps in the last game against another opponent, you know, just that's where I'm at Like, you know, you would think Even if it's even late in the game like that let him go out, you know read a defense, you know make some passes and you know when you're not playing lion versus lion and I was shocked when I saw from out there. And like I said, I was expecting it to be three run plays and be done. And they kept throwing it even after they got first downs, they let him basically just drive all the way down the field. So I don't know.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

He was a yard probably, I mean Funk could have caught the ball,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

a yard away from having that touchdown pass, too.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I don't know if he didn't see it or whatever, but it was laid in there. It laid in there pretty nicely. It was a little out of his reach, but it seems like he could have reached and got it. So I,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

to that,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

yeah, so yeah, I, that was surprisingly the story of the game in my head, like the most compelling story. I was, you know, wanting to see what the wide receiver is. I wanted to see, you know, and we can maybe get into this a little bit. I wanted to see James Houston. Those are like the guys that I was like, I wanted to see. To see what happens and then suddenly, you know, Hennon plays three quarters, which is really what I wanted to see I really was hoping that he would get you know When they came out in the second half and Hennon was still in there. I was like, yes. All right, that's that's good That's exactly what I wanted to see but then Fromm came in and said Sudfeld and I was like,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah, there come the question

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

yeah, it was like, okay I didn't expect that so Do you want to talk about Jake Bates?

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

at all?

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

say Bates or Houston, those are

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

yeah, um, I can lead off into Bates missing the kick, an easy kick

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

he did not help his case

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

no,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

no he did not.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

that field goal. He also had those kickoffs. He had two kickoffs that were violations. They got the ball at the 40,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

if that's really his fault or if that's us playing around, cause he did kind of try different kicks, but

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah I'm I'm not I'm not worried about the kickoff I think that that was just them messing around or trying a couple things with the squib kick because if you get the squib kick Down right it can really work But and then he also had that kick where it landed in the landing zone And they got it out, went out and they got it at the 20. I mean, that's your best, that's your best play right there. But I think that kicks really done. Cause you gotta hit a low squibber.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

they got at the 40, right?

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

No, the, the last one, when he kicked it, if it lands in the landing zone between the goal line, like not in the end zone, but between the goal line, the 20, And it goes all the way, and it goes through the back of the end zone. As long as it lands between the goal line 20, then it ends out at the 20. So the last one was at the 20 yard line. So, but the, if you kick it just out the back of the end zone or kick it, if you kick it out of bounds, like it lands in the landing zone, goes out of bounds. And you're at the 40. If you kick it and then it goes just out of the back end of the end zone, you get it at the 30. But if it goes in the landing zone, which The zero line yard line does a 20 and then goes through the end zone. The offense gets it at the 20. So, I mean, if you, but that's kind of hard play, you've got to have a low squibber that they can't feel, then it just scoots through the end zone. That's a tough play, but I think that that that's where they're trying to do with those low squibs is. Cause I mean, that's a 10 yard difference, right? I mean, you get 20 or 30, that's, you know, that's a good advantage for your defense. I'm not worried about the kickoffs. I am worried missing like a mid 30 yard field goal.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

And it wasn't particularly that close either. And then he goes and nails, uh, he wanted to get like a 43 or something like that.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Up and down again.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I'm not convinced on Jake Bates, uh, at all. They asked Dan Camel in the press post game press conference.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah, it says he's a young, talented player, needs growth. He's growing right in front of us. There's gonna be some growing pains that come with that, and I understand that. I don't want to get frustrated by it. It's not exactly backing him up, I guess you would say. I mean, he's,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

just explaining the situation. This is what the situation is. This is how it's going. Doesn't necessarily say that, you know, He's our guy.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah. Well Riley Patterson just got cut So, you know, he could have way to make his way back on the team. Last week I was feeling good, you know four for four still miss an extra point but this week I after he missed that I was like It's gonna be some growing pains and I would hate to see You know, a game and forward field come down to, you know, a field goal at the end, and then we got to have that tough decision, so you want to talk about Houston?

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

We can go there.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

It was not a, uh, glowing endorsement from Campbell at all. Basically said he missed half a camp. Um, you know, We don't know what we really have, I feel very uneasy about him making the active roster.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I, mean, it's been trending down and basically every week It's just getting worse and worse as far as his prospects for making the roster

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

you do it, thank you again. It's a sack today that. The progress would be up, right? You'd be like, Oh, he got a stack. He got, you know, he made a quick move and he got in there, but

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

right?

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

the,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

that's a case of look too little too late

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

his main competition for a roster spot was Isaac, how do you say his name? Okwu

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah. Yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

he, uh, he had a dominant sack forced a fumble and looked, I mean, he looked good and he, he has looked good. He's looked better than Houston

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

for sure. And he's out there.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yep. He's out there. He's been playing. He was, slightly injured in the Kansas city game, but came back in and. You know, and he's basically played pretty much, you know, I don't remember too much in the Giants game if he played the whole game, but I know he played the whole Kansas City game other other than when he was injured and he played a majority of this game too. They're getting all the look that they, want from him and he's going against second and third team offensive line whether he can do that I don't know what he's doing in practice if he's going against, you know, our ones at all So, you know that might determine a little bit more, you know, whether they think he's ready or not But he's making the most of his opportunities in these preseason games for sure.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

actually, uh, the edge defenders, he's had the most snaps this preseason. So

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Felt like it.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

and he had, uh, he played 69 percent of the defensive snaps against the giants. Uh, compared to James Houston played 38%, I mean, let's not read in too much of that, but then the Chiefs game, he actually played 78 percent of the snaps. So he's out there, he's getting the reps, he's putting in the work.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

He's definitely worked his way into the conversation, you know, I'm sure Campbell and Brad, you know, they have him on the bubble, then it's a question of, you know, if they don't, has he shown too much in the preseason that another team might be interested in him? You know, I don't know if he's done that. He's undrafted, you know, free agent for a reason, but we'll see. I, I am encouraged by. How well he's played and, um, his attitude seems great and I think he'd be a good fit for the team, but whether, you know, even if we keep him, is he even going to be active on game day unless we have some injuries, Did you see Ben Neiman at all play today? I don't remember him playing at all. Um,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

So that was an interesting, you know, uh, for like a roster bubble player. I guess you would say Ben Neiman is, uh, you know, inactive, which I mean, that pretty much solidifies that he's going to make this team. Same for Kendall Vildore.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

yeah,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Maybe he's on the bubble. He doesn't play either. I mean, I think those guys are both locks now.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

yeah,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Obviously, they've seen enough out of them. They didn't need to play this one.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

yeah. It's.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

out to you, though? I mean, out there, like, who do you think really helped their cause this last game?

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

You know, other than, I think Hendon moving, maybe moving into that number two position, I think that he did good. Um, you know, we kind of already talked about From impressed me, and I don't think it's going to be making the roster, but it's going to be a matter of him making a practice squad somewhere. Project Martin ended up getting a hurt, which that kind of stinks. Um, I was actually impressed with, uh, Colby Sorsdell on that goal line touchdown. Um, he really just manhandled his guy and made a huge hole. I think that was Jefferson that ran that one. And so. I was impressed with that.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Who's taking it seriously and who's playing the hardest, you know? Yeah. Brandon Joseph, played well again. Had that huge tackle on pickings where they lost the yardage before they gained that big play. He, you know, he was just in there a lot. He did miss the tackle on Patterson's touchdown run,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

so, but yeah, it was, you know, it was actually more of an entertaining game than I thought, especially when we started out. You know, down 14, nothing. Um, but it was encouraging still. Hendon needs to slide. He needs to get down. His mom is not going to be happy that he's not sliding, but it is so refreshing to have a player that can a quarterback that can run. Cause it is so demoralizing. I know as a lions fan, when the quarterback runs and gets a first down on you, it just feels like it just, it's just so demoralizing. So, but yep. The last preseason game, you know, we'll have these game recaps, um, you know, during the season, obviously it's going to be a lot more to talk about. You know, game with all starters and just a lot more consequence for different plays and stuff like that. So we'll, you know, I have. Have fun with these. Our download numbers have been great with these. It seems like people are really enjoying them. So we're happy that we can do that for you. Let's be the last one. The preseason couple of weeks, we'll get to do another game recap, but that'll be one that counts, you know, for our record. So, um, but anything else you want to add, Jacob?

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah. I just real quick want to mention the fact that, you know, it's preseason. This was our only preseason game this year in Detroit and it was a sold out game.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

room tickets. The standing room tickets are sold out and it's so loud in the preseason that we actually drew a false start. We drew some penalties late in the game that actually helped decide that we won. So that's crazy. And you know, Dan Campbell and the rest of the team, they all. They all feel it. And for it to be in the preseason,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Yeah.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

that's unheard of.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I'm glad you brought that up. I. When I saw that they had, you know, sold out San Ramon, the tickets that I was like, it's a preseason game, you know, few years ago, you couldn't give these tickets away. Um, and now it's, you know, people are selling the cheapest price. When I look like last week, I was just curious what they were going for, for preseason games were like 75 for the seed. I don't, I didn't look lately cause I didn't really had no reason to, but I was like 75 bucks. That's crazy. But I think Couple of, you know, the excitement of the team and then just how expensive the regular season games are. If you know, if you're bringing your kid, you know, this might be the only chance that they go to a lions game for some of these families. So it was, you know, a shame, uh, that it's that expensive just to go to a preseason game. And have you ever done a standing room only? Ticket at Ford Field.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I have not

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I have not either, but I don't know, like, it just doesn't feel like there'd be, yeah, like, I know there's certain sections, but it feels like if you're not, like, in the first couple rows of people, it doesn't feel like you're gonna be seeing much. I, I, I don't know. I've never been down there.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

before the lower bowl, but I mean, that's like where the handicap seating and stuff is. I can't imagine. That you would have that great of a view especially if there's a million people around you like, you

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Right. And then if you have to go,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

But I mean you're in the building you're feeling the energy.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Oh yeah. I mean, there, there's something to be said for that, but I also think it stinks when you're like the front row and then you got to use the bathroom and you don't want to give up your spot. So then you're kind of screwed. So, you know, don't be drinking too many, uh, you know, beverages, I guess, as they say, if any of our listeners have ever done the standard room only, I would love for someone to respond to us and just, Tell us what your experience was. Cause I'm just curious for myself, how,

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

right.

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

you know, how, how that experience was. It is awesome to be in the building and feel that energy. There are benefits to it, but as far as like watching the game, I mean, are you able to like actually follow and watch the game and where actually do you stand and, and for field to watch it? So we're recording this Saturday night. We're going to release this Sunday morning. Jacob and I are going to record another episode tomorrow, and we're going to release at the latest Monday morning for our roster breakdown. So we're going to talk about who each of us are going to talk about who we think is going to make the roster. And, uh, you know, I don't think we're going to talk about, I mean, we might, we're not going to build a practice squad, but we might allude to some of these people that we'd want to see on the practice squad, but we'll, you know, do our 53 and it'd be fun talking about it with you, Jacob.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

for sure. We're going in depth now

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I know, I know it'll be fun. That means that we're getting really close to this, two weeks from tomorrow, two weeks from tomorrow, and I'm going to the game in the Rams game and it was so loud today that I'm just, I can't wait. I think it's going to be a playoff atmosphere being Sunday night game, you know, we're hot. I think it's going to be like a playoff atmosphere, like as far as people getting there early and everything and then the whole Stafford thing and all that stuff. So it's going to be fun. I'm looking forward to it. So

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

Sunday night game at home

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

yes, I know the first Sunday night game.

jacob_1_08-24-2024_221729:

man,

jason-harwood_1_08-24-2024_221729:

I know. Um, I, I always look forward to that first Sunday night game. This year I really look forward to it, they usually put a really good game in there and, uh, yeah, looking forward to it. So, all right, for Jacob, I'm Jason, we'll catch you actually, you know, tomorrow. So, you know, it's not too far away. I hope you enjoy this episode and go lions.
